Questions & answers

Frequently asked questions

Honest answers about what Joura is, how it works, and how it treats your family's information. The short version: it is private, it is not a chatbot, and you stay the parent.

The basics

What is Joura?

Joura is a private parenting companion for the hard moments with young kids. You tell it what just happened in one sentence, like venting to a friend who has seen it a hundred times, and it gives you one concrete thing to try. Over time it learns what actually works for your child. It is calm, private, and made to help in the ten seconds when you do not know what to do.

Who is Joura for?

Joura is made for parents and caregivers of kids ages 2 to 6. These are the years of tantrums, bedtime standoffs, the 5pm sibling blowup, and big feelings that arrive out of nowhere. If you have ever stood in a hallway wondering if you are getting this right, Joura was built for you.

How does Joura work?

Three steps. You tell it what just happened, in your own words. It gives you one honest thing to try, with a plain sense of how sure it is, never a wall of ten tips. Later it asks if that helped, and over time it builds a private picture of what works for your kid, so the suggestions get more like yours and less like advice for children in general.

Is Joura an AI?

The honest short version.

Joura is not a chatbot, and it does not guess about your child. It runs on a private, on-device engine, and every suggestion is drawn from named, published expert guidance, not invented on the spot. It never diagnoses or labels your child. You are the one it helps.

Is Joura an AI? Does it use ChatGPT?

No. Joura is not a chatbot, and it does not use ChatGPT. It does not guess about your child. Joura runs on a private, on-device engine, and every suggestion it gives you is drawn from named, published expert sources in pediatric and child development, not invented on the spot. You are using a calm, private tool, not a bot improvising answers.

Does Joura analyze or diagnose my child?

No. Joura never analyzes, diagnoses, scores, or labels your child. It does not decide what is wrong with your kid, because that is not its job and it does not know your child the way you do. You are the one it helps. It gives you one honest thing to try in a hard moment, and you stay the parent.

Where does the advice come from?

Every suggestion is grounded in published guidance from named authorities in children's health and development, such as the American Academy of Pediatrics, the CDC, and Zero to Three. It is drawn from that guidance, not made up. When Joura is not sure, it tells you, and it gives you a plain read on how confident it is. Joura draws on these sources and is an independent app. These organizations do not endorse Joura.

How is Joura different from a parenting chatbot?

A chatbot generates an answer on the spot and sounds equally sure of all of it. Joura works the other way around. It hands you one thing to try that traces back to real, published guidance, and it is honest about how sure it is. It is built to be quiet, private, and grounded, not clever.

Privacy and your data

Is Joura private? Where does my data live?

Your family's moments live on your phone. Your child's name, the moments you write down, and your journal stay in an encrypted database on your own device and are not sent to us. To keep the app running and improve it, Joura sends a small amount of anonymous, non-identifying information, like basic app analytics and crash reports, and you can turn that off in Settings. We do not sell your information, we do not run ads, and we never train AI on your family's entries. The full details are on our Privacy page.

Can I delete my data?

Yes, anytime. In the app you can clear your information in Settings, and removing the app takes its data off your device with it. To also clear the small amount of anonymous data tied to your device on our side, email us and we will take care of it. Full steps are on our Delete your data page.

Cost and getting started

What does Joura cost?

Joura is free to try. Staying with it after that is a paid subscription. You will always see the details, including the price and the date you would be charged, in the app before anything happens. There is no charge without you seeing it first.

Is Joura on iPhone and Android?

Yes, both. Joura is live on the Apple App Store and on Google Play, free to try, with no account and no login.

Using Joura well

Does Joura replace a doctor or therapist?

No. Joura offers general parenting support, not medical, psychological, or professional advice, and it is not a substitute for your pediatrician or a licensed therapist. It is also not for emergencies. If your child is in danger or you are worried about anyone's safety, call 911 or your local emergency number, or contact Poison Help at 1-800-222-1222 in the United States.

How is Joura different from parenting books and articles?

Books and articles give you everything at once, and half of it contradicts the other half. At 8pm in the middle of a meltdown, that is the opposite of help. Joura gives you one honest thing to try for your kid, right now, and then learns whether it actually worked. Not ten conflicting articles. One next step.

Can I use Joura for a child older or younger than 2 to 6?

Joura is built and tuned for the 2 to 6 age range, so that is where it helps most. You are welcome to try it outside that range, but the suggestions are shaped around what is typical for those years, so they may fit less well for a baby or an older child.
